Strengthsquest for your career

Looking over the results of our Student Satisfaction Survey, we noticed that several of you reported a desire for more career service oriented materials to be available to the AGS students.  I would like to let you know about a tool that we have used as MVNU staff that has been a great resource to focusing duties in the office environment.  This resource is Strenthsquest.

Strengthsquest is available in book form or can be used as an online tool.  Each of our staff members has filled out a questionnaire that was evaluated and resulted in a summary of each person's top five strengths.  Also, students of the MSM program take a course with Jeff Williamson in which they use this tool.  Not only does the evaluation list the positives and negatives of each strength, but offers suggestions on how these strengths can be used in your current work environment.  Another feature of this evaluation is that it gives suggestions of what careers best fit your top five strengths.  This program is being used in companies nationwide in an effort to improve the workplace by placing people in departments and assigning duties that best utilize their strengths.  This makes for a more efficient use of resources and a more productive environment.

Strengthsquest was developed by members of the Gallup Organization, best known for the Gallup poll.  If you are interested in more information, visit www.strengthsquest.com where you can find more details and purchase an evaluation if you wish.  Also, your nearest bookstore or library should have a copy of the book entitled Strengthsquest by Don Clifton and Chip Anderson. The most recent edition was revised by Laurie Schreiner, Ph.D.

If you have any questions, please contact Brent Stark (bstark@mvnu.edu).
We hope this proves to be a valuable tool for you as well.
