Art department launches new web site

MVNU’s Art Department recently launched a new portion of the university’s web site focused on art, geared for prospective students, current students and alumni. Here you can examples of student artwork, read more about faculty members and their professional work, news items and recent updates, a feature on the Italy trip, and so much more. There’s even a place for alumni to upload their work and tell us what’s happening in their careers and lives. Stop by and visit:  www.mvnu.edu/art.

Art student wins top prize at Mansfield Art Center

At the 64th annual May Show at the Mansfield Art Center, many MVNU students and art faculty were represented. Senior Chris Waldron won “Best in Show,” a $1,000 prize, for his mixed media large-scale, handmade drawing/painting book titled, “Ghost in the Machine.” John Donnelly had three pieces accepted:  enamel painting and collage titled “Saving Grace; a sculpture of wood, cast pewter, rope and stone titled “Jonah’s Staff;” and a diptych ink drawing on found paper titled “His and Hers.” Don Boyd’s entry was a figurative sculpture of tin, wire and wax called “The One and Only.” Student Nicole Bush’s work was a painting on sticks on a canvas called “The Girl in the Pearl Earring,” which won a $100 Honorable Mention. Jim Hendrickx also received a $100 Honorable Mention with a series of seven crosses created with mixed media wood and found objects, titled “Speak.” Lori Wilkes had a vinyl, aluminum, jute and paper sculpture accepted titled “A Cord of Three Strands.”

Over 300 works total were submitted to the distinguished juror Martin Ball, who selected only 98 pieces for the show. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Come visit the show and express your support of our students and faculty! Nursing program recommended for accreditation
The School of Nursing and Health Sciences received a favorable report from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The site team determined the School met all four standards for accreditation and will recommend the maximum approval of 5 years. There were no recommendations to the School. The CCNE Board will vote on the recommendation in October. Much appreciation goes to the science faculty for their great work with our students. The success of the nursing program is a reflection of the work of the entire MVNU community.

SPECIAL NOTES

Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers you sent for my mother’s funeral. We also appreciate your thoughts and prayers. It is a comfort to know people care when times are hard—and they have been this last month. Thank you again,
